Moms of Older Children Matter Too

If you’re a regular reader of my blog, then you know that I’m a Mom of four older children. As a blogger I’m often on social media interacting with people, most often with other moms and I’ve noticed something…most groups and pages are created for moms of infants, toddlers or expectant moms.

My children are 19, 17, 15, and 13. I’m well beyond these stages.

I’ve stumbled across a few groups of moms with older children, but they are few and far in between. The social media mom scene is low key discriminatory.

Disclaimer: the thoughts expressed in this blog are solely mine, and a result of my experiences.

When they ask for advice and you respond they then ask, “Well how old is your child?”, they don’t want to hear from you, they want to hear from someone who’s a “new mom”. I get it, everyone has their preference, but they act as if your mom card expires once your child reaches a certain age.

News flash, having older children doesn’t mean you stop being a mom.

Listen folks, us moms of older children have been where you are. We can help you navigate the beginning stages and give you valuable advice for where you’re going. Now, I’m not speaking about the unpopular unsolicited advice that moms, including myself hate to receive. I’m speaking of wanted, sound advice.

What I’d like to see, more unity and more inclusivity. I was always taught that if what you want doesn’t exist, create it. Who knows, maybe one day soon you’ll see a forum created for moms with children of all ages to connect from Talking All That Jaz.

“Alone we can do so little; TOGETHER we can do so much.” ~ Helen Keller

Until next time…💙
