On today’s blog of don’t knock it to you try it Tasty Thursday, I’m bringing you a breakfast staple in my house growing up!
Growing up, I was never a cereal kid. My father was retired before I was in second grade, and prior to that, my mom was a stay at home mom. We always had real food for breakfast. Grits, eggs, biscuits, fried chicken, rice with butter and sugar. Not all together of course.
What is this dish you ask? I’m calling it Papa’s Toast. It’s a piece of toast, topped with one slice of American cheese, and to that you add, crumbled bacon, sliced boiled egg, and sweet pickles. Now before you judge and frown, it’s an unlikely combination that’s absolutely delicious together! Everyone, and I mean everyone I’ve made it for has loved it! Bet you can’t eat just one.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Ingredients List:
• White or Wheat Bread
• Eggs
• Bacon
• American Cheese
• Sweet Pickles
Directions:
⁃ Amount of ingredients will depend on how many you want.
⁃ Boil eggs – always begin with cold water. (1 egg per toast) Place uncooked eggs in a pot of cold water. Place on stove and turn on medium high heat. Once the water begins to boil, cook for 7-10 minutes. Once done, immediately drain and place in cold water. This will stop the cooking. Peel and dice.
⁃ While the eggs are boiling, turn your oven to broil, dice up slices of bacon and cook in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Drain and place on a paper towel.
⁃ Dice up sweet pickles
Now it’s time to assemble!
Top 1 slice of bread with a slice of american cheese and place in the broiler. Toast until melted with just a bit of dark. It will start to bubble.
Remove the toast and top with diced eggs, crumbled bacon, and diced sweet pickles. Eat and enjoy.
If you make this, I’d love to know!
P.S…kid friendly, and kid approved
Until next time…💛
