Let the countdown begin! So what it’s a bit early. In less than 8 months, I’ll be 40. I can’t believe it!
I remember like it was yesterday, riding bikes all over the city. Swinging on monkey bars. $1 ice tickles from the ice cream truck. Walkmans, jump rope, and double Dutch. I swear I blinked, and here I am on the road to 40.
13, 16, 18, 21, 25, 30, 35, and then there was 40. When you’re 13 you can’t wait to be 16 because getting a drivers license is by far the most important thing to happen when you’re 16. Then you can’t wait until 18 because that makes you “grown”. Then you can’t wait until 21 to drink. We rush through every stage of life without taking the time to enjoy where we are and live in the moment.
Turning 40 is both exciting and a bit scary. Exciting because 40 is still the new 20. It’s also a bit scary because, time. I think, wow 40, great I’m closer to death. I know, I’m a bit dramatic.
I believe 40 is a rite of passage. I feel like I’ve truly earned a seat at the adult table. Now by no means do I mean I have the same wealth of knowledge, but I’ve experienced some things. I feel like I can freely cuss. I can say I’m tired without an older adult telling me that I can’t even spell tired. 40 to me means looking at life through different lenses. Appreciation for things that didn’t matter in my 20’s and 30’s.
Things like…
Sleep…can’t get enough! Naps are God’s way of saying I love you!
Flat shoes…I wore heels almost daily, even pregnant! These days, I’m choosing comfort over cuteness.
Glasses…the closer to 40 I get, the worse my vision gets.
Brief microfiber underwear…because I remember the day I used to care about cute and frilly, these days I just confirm that they’re hole free. They have cute styles and they are comfortable! Don’t judge me.
Time…the essence of time takes on a different meaning, it becomes more valuable.
Prilosec & Beano…because now everything you eat gives you heartburn and gas.
Eating clean…because there’s garbage in everything you eat! Lettuce ain’t even safe no more.
These are just a few!
How will I spend my 40th Birthday? What is a girl to do? I’m not a big party girl, so that’s out. I do however love a beautiful beach and warm weather, so I’m thinking a tropical vacation.
Give me some suggestions on beautiful places to visit. Passport is not a problem!
Until next time…💚
