I feel like I need to start this blog off with an intro like the one from Law & Order SVU…These are my experiences (dun dun dun)
This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. This is also one of the most rewarding and funnest things I’ve ever done. It’s not always easy sharing your life on the internet. Sharing vulnerable stories and photos that are seen by several strangers. Yes, it’s a choice.
And can we talk about coming up with exciting and captivating content? What to write about on this blog? Did I already talk about that? Do I have time to take a cute picture after my 10 hour corporate job work day? Because it’s been five days since my last post and I don’t want to lose steam or relevance. It ain’t always unicorns and rainbows and I’m seeing all sides of this creative world. The good, bad, and not so pretty.
Here are some things I’ve learned in this short time:
I get several follows from creators with large followings only to have them unfollow shortly after they gain my follow. I’m going to assume this is a twisted growth tactic (insert eye roll here). No, I don’t keep track, but with a small platform you notice. Not a fan at all.
I’ve also noticed that those who have become “Instafamous”, “FB famous “, or “YouTube” famous pick and choose who they interact with. Whether it be by email or in the comment section. Please remember folks, you can’t grow your brand without the likes and support of the little folk. “We” make up your 200K. Now I’m not ignorant to the fact that you can’t see or respond to everything when your following is large, but some of these acts are blatantly shady.
People are attracted to followers and pretty pictures, not content. I don’t care if you have 22 or 25K followers, if your content is good, I’m going to support.
Buying followers…is this a real thing? No ma’am and no sir. My goal is for my growth to be organic (no judgement though). Coming up with strategic marketing strategies, I’m all there. Plus, that piece isn’t apart of the “funding my dream” plan. Still a learning process though, no expert here.
#Hashtags matter! If you want people to view your content, hashtag, hashtag, hashtag. It’s definitely made a huge difference for me personally. I will hashtag the hell out of a post 🤷🏽♀️.
Trolls…even with small followings, the trolling is real. No sir I am not looking for a relationship, thank you though. No sir I will not tell you where I live, I watch ID channel. You don’t like my picture? That’s fine, I’m an acquired taste. Feel free to keep scrolling. Understand that there is an audience for what you create! There is a reason there are multiple successful rappers, creators, chefs, actors, and so on. There is enough to go around.
Is there an almost 40 crowd? I sometimes struggle with being relatable, current, and almost 40. I’m just trying to get in where I fit in as an almost OG.
New friendships, one of the upsides! Linking with other like-minded individuals. New groups to join. Events and meet ups! I’m here for all of that, and it does exist! I’m so excited to see where this all goes. 2018 in the blogging space has been an absolute joy!
