Back to School Shopping with Teenagers

Shopping for three teenage boys with three totally different styles can be challenging. My boys are now 16, 14, and 13. I would describe my 16 y/o style as urban preppy. My 14 y/o create your own (he definitely marches to the beat of his own drum), and my 13 y/o doesn’t care as long as it’s clean with a side of creative.

This year we got a bit of a late start. We started today. Here is how uninterested my youngest boys were. My 14 y/o picked out everything online and refused to go to the mall with us. My 13 y/o gave me specific instructions to just get him joggers, only joggers. This boy hates jeans of any kind. It reminded me of the scene in Nutty Professor when Sherman became Buddy Love and he was in the store yelling, “spandex, nothing but spandex.”

My oldest boy and I headed to the mall. Shopping with him, Lawd. This boy takes forever looking, and usually decides on nothing. We went back to one store twice and still bought nothing. When I asked him what he was looking for, his response was, I don’t know 🤦🏾‍♀️. One beautiful thing about shopping with my kids, they don’t care where we shop. I’ve never been obsessed with labels, not that there is anything wrong with that, just not my thing. In my mind, I never wanted to start something I couldn’t keep up financially, and this has been an advantage when it comes to shopping for my children. Growing up my granny would always say, “you don’t have to spend a million, to look a million.”

We hit up all the usuals, Hollister, Zumiez, Forever 21, Kohls, Rue 21, Old Navy, H&M, Spencers (only for the T-shirts, not the nasty stuff lol), and Macy’s. When buying for multiple children, saving is always important to me. Shopping online I was able to take advantage of door busting deals and back to school sales. I also used my go to couponing/savings app, Retail Me Not.

We were able to get several outfits for bargain prices. We aren’t done, but we’re close. Maybe I’ll share a clothing haul video of the items we purchased, but for now, enjoy the few pictures I took.

Here are a few tips:

• Don’t wait until the last minute

• Take advantage of online sales

• Download Retail Me Not App

• Sign up for the free rewards programs

• Use the in store bucks like Kohl’s cash

• Take the time to browse the clearance sections

Until next time…💖

Happy Shopping!
